The Austin Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is Balcones’ original flagship location. Balcones opened the recycling facility in 2012 after winning part of the City of Austin’s residential recycling contract, effectively kickstarting our residential single stream program. The system has a processing capacity of 25 tons-per-hour and recovers between 11K and 15K tons of both commercial and residential recyclables each month.

Taylor, TX

Just a few minutes north of Austin, the Taylor Material Recovery Facility (MRF) supports the recycling needs of the cities of Temple, Leander and Hutto, and surrounding communities. The Balcones Taylor recycling facility has a processing capacity of 15 tons-per-hour and recovers both commercial and residential single-stream material.

This Balcones MRF opened its doors in 1995. Located in Farmers Branch, the facility focuses on commercial and post-industrial paper, metal, and plastics processing and marketing. Along with the Austin location, it pioneered single stream recycling in Texas with the “Everything that TearsTM” program.
